MIHA ŠEGULA

He has started his wine grower and winemaker’s career with the vintage of 2009, at that time at his father in law’s small wine cellar in vrtojba, close to nova Gorica.

He imbottled his first barrique barrel of Merlot. The Joy at the tasting of matured Wine, gave him a new push and in 2016 he has passed an Wine Cellar exam and took over the Merlot Vineyard in Vrtojba, in 2017 a Malvasia Wineyard in Sempeter pri Gorici and in 2018 bought his first Wineyard under the Zemono Manor House close to the city of Vipava. In 2020 he passed a sommelier exam and has won in 2021 his first silver medal at Decanter World Wide Award for his Merlot 2018.

HE IS CONSTANTLY IMPROVING HIS KNOWLEDGE WITH READING THE TECHNICAL LITERATURE AND WITH SHARING MUTUAL EXPERIENCES WITH OTHER WINEMAKERS.

So he introduced two inovations in his urban wine cellar which make wine production and winemaking much easier.He started with drastic changes in his vineyars, especially at the pruning time in the winter – the load of the grapes is low, less than a kilo per vine. This of course results in a very quality grapes, which besides high sugars brings also a total phenolic maturity.He is following biodynamic legitimacy so in the vineyards as in his wine cellar. He is growing grapes on totally 1,5ha and making wines in Vipava Valley, Slovenia.
